Improving pluralism in Kazakhstan

Pluralism is a positive result of relationships of people with different cultures, languages, and religions, who happen to share the land because of one or other circumstances. I think I live in a pluralistic society which we inherited from our ancestors, who had to live in the colonial country. The people of diverse nationalities were brought to live in the one big land. Therefore, indigenous society of that time had a choice to accept other nationalities or to fight for their land. As they were very wise and generous people, they accepted other nationalities and did it with respect. Humanity was the main power that drew them. Surely, there were other factors such as “good governance, strong civic institutions, and sound public policy choices that promote respect for diversity”(Boutilier, 2012, p.2). However, people’s decisions and commitment are probably the mainfactors of pluralism. For the time being, there are some challenges and issues in some regions of Kazakhstan, especially in rural areas, which might lead to some conflicts. And so it is important to consider the experiences of other countries and think of what we can gain from them in order to preserve the reciprocity of the nations in our country.
What can Kazakhstan attempt to do in order to preserve and improve pluralism in the country? First of all,as pluralism and economic stability are strongly bounded notions, there should be further improvement of people’s economical stability, especially in rural areas. Another point for improvement is corruption in the country which weakens the trust of citizens toward the government. According to Boutilier (2012), to effect any “improvement to undermine the culture of corruption that permeates state institutions and the society at large, citizens must believe that the law will be implemented in predictable ways and that no one, no matter how wealthy or politically connected, sits above it” (p.7).
Some minor conflicts are probably inevitable, as each individual is unique. Besides, for people knowing their roots, where they come from, and where their parents come from is very important, since it maintains a sense of uniqueness. A person with no roots is like a tree without roots, which would not flourish and grow. However, one cannot survive alone without belonging to a society. Therefore, in order to be happy in a diversified society, it is crucial to learn to compromise, to inculcate respect, and to be a decent human being. I believe we inherited the spirit of humanity as a main treasure from our ancestors. Our role now is to carry on the peaceful direction which was set ages ago and remember what our constitution says - “People are the most precious value of the country”.
