Killed students at Kenya’s university

It was a normal weekday and as usually I was watching the news on TV. You know, it becomes ‘normal’ to us to learn about another death in the world (but it shouldn’t be so). However, the news of the 2nd of April shocked me more than ever, because the number of killed is extremely huge and it happened in one of the poor countries in the world. Moreover, the worst thing in this tragedy is that killed people were mostly students.
The tragedy happened in Garrisa, where terrorists attacked the university and killed 147 people, 142 of them were students. The Somali-based Islamic terrorist group Al-Shabaab took the responsibilities for the attack (CNN International edition, 2015). It is really difficult to understand the motives of the attack because of political and religious visions in that contingent. According to students, “the terrorists separated Muslims from Christians and placed explosive around the Christians hostages” (USATODAY, 2015). “How does the person, who seems to believe, may take such action? Does the Holy book teach terrorists to kill people, whoever they are: Muslim or Christians, Buddhists or
However, I think that there is ‘invisible power’ behind those terrorists who are just puppets in those powerful hands. And this attack is just the order of the ‘invisible power’.
You may wonder how this tragedy can be related to our blog and especially to education. The reasons is that we need to look to this tragedy as the loss of human capital, which is further would enlighten population of Kenya. In other words, it is a loss of talented, educated youth, who were able to taste knowledge, as “75% of children in Kenya do not finish primary school due to poverty” (rb.ru, 2015). Education is one of the best chances for Kenyan boys and girls. “They were just children. They were trying to make a better life for themselves. Some were first to go to college in their communities. They died trying to get an education" (CNN International edition, 2015).
I know, Kenya is far from us, but the picture of 147 killed students in Kenya’s university as if still in front of my eyes. It was not just another attack, not just more than a hundred dead. It was the murder of the future of Kenya. We mustn’t be indifferent, at least, in our prayer we need to share the pain of Kenya; as those innocent victims of terrorist attack are somebody’s son or daughter, sister or brother, the young people, who dream about better life!

  1. Diyara,
Before I start, nice beginning of a post as a storytelling. The blog shows that you are an educated person who follows news and what a heartwarming soul you are.
As for the blog itself, this bad news are worthy of knowing. Nowadays, the world is filled with more bad news than good ones. Apparently, it is because of worldwide web that keeps all data on track. The tragedy of so many killed people brings only bewailing feelings. Those young and ambitious students who just started to live in the adult life suddenly lost their lives. Students like any other student in the world. Unfairness is in every corner. This post of the Kenyan tragedy makes people think how short life is. No matter who you are, where you live, and what your ambitions are. One thing to remember is to live fully as much as we can.
